1. How did you come about WFMU?
2. Tell us about your previous radio experience.
I first heard about WFMU when I started working at my college radio station, KDVS, in Davis, California. KDVS is also a freeform station and everyone there looked up to WFMU as a model and an example to follow. I hosted a radio show and worked at KDVS all through college. I was the Publicity Director for a few years, in charge of putting together the station’s program guide/’zine, which was modeled after WFMU’s program guide, LCD. I served as the General Manager of KDVS during my last year of college, and after that, I thought I would probably never work in radio again.
I moved to New York for graduate school, and after finishing, I couldn’t find a job in my field (Environmental Science) because it was during the George W. Bush era. A friend of mine from KDVS sent me a job announcement for the position at WFMU, and I thought, “why not?” Lucky for me, it worked out!
